Driving a car is something most of us take for granted. However, we often don’t stop to consider the impact that driving has on our environment.
A Carbon Offset Card helps you manage the impact of your vehicle’s greenhouse gas emissions. By purchasing a carbon offset card, we’ll offset 1.28 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, which we estimate to be the average amount produced by the burning of petrol used to fuel a small car for 6 months#*

Car size:
A
small car's engine size is less than 1.8 litres. E.g. Hyundai Getz, Toyota Yaris, Ford Festiva.
A
medium car's engine size is between 1.8 and 3.0 litres. E.g. Holden Astra, Subaru Forester, Toyota Camry.
A
large car's engine size is above 3.0 litres. E.g Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon, Toyota Prado.
Where does my money go?
When you offset your car’s fuel emissions, your money goes towards our
Carbon Reduction Scheme™. We undertake to create or source emission reductions from verified projects that prevent greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere.
All offset sales are independently verified to confirm that we've purchased and retired the correct volume of emission reductions on your behalf. This means that you can be confident that for every tonne purchased, a tonne of greenhouse gas emissions is actually reduced.
How credible is this program?
Origin’s Carbon Reduction Scheme™ has been developed with the involvement of:
• St James Centre for Ethics, and
• Australian Conservation Foundation.
Our Carbon Reduction Scheme™ is independently audited and the results are publicly reported annually on our website confirming our offsets have met the Carbon Reduction Scheme™ standards and principles.

1. Your Carbon Offset Card specifies:
a. #Average car size is defined with a petrol engine between 1.8L to 3.0L.
"Small car" to mean a car with petrol engine size of less than 1.8L.
"Medium car" to mean a car with petrol engine size of 1.8L to 3.0L.
"Large car" to mean a car with petrol engine size of greater than 3.0L.
b. * Period of travel. "Distance travelled" is based on average car travelling an annual mileage of 13,700 km's (based on the national average travelled - Australian Bureau of Statistics, Survey of Motor Vehicle Use, 12 months ended 31 October 2007).
2. We define "estimated greenhouse gas emissions" by:

applying the Australian Government emission co-efficients^ current at the date you purchased your Carbon Offset Card to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions produced solely from petrol used to fuel an average small, medium and large car for distance travelled over 3, 6 and 12 month periods in Australia. - not taking into account the emissions associated with the manufacture, delivery or maintenance of the car.
3. When you purchase a Carbon Offset Card, we will offset the number of tonnes of estimated greenhouse gas emissions by arranging for the surrender of equivalent amounts of emissions reductions under Origin's Carbon Reduction Scheme™.
4. We will refund the purchase price of your Carbon Offset Card if, within 14 days from the date of purchase:

you present the Card and the purchase receipt to us at the place of purchase; or
- we receive the Card and copy of the purchase receipt at Retail Carbon, Level 21, 360 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000.
5. We will not replace or refund tampered with, altered, lost or stolen Cards.
6. This Card cannot be redeemed for cash and is not valid for redemption on Origin's Go Green Calculator™ at origingreen.com.au.
